Event Preview: South East Cannabis Conference and Expo
June 6, 2017
As Florida’s medical cannabis industry struggles to gain momentum, business owners, investors, advocates, and entrepreneurs are wasting little time in preparing for the eventual windfall in what some predict to be the second largest cannabis market in the United States behind California.
Despite delays from policy makers, the excitement in Florida is growing and industry leaders are taking notice. The South East Cannabis Conference and Expo, taking place in Ft Lauderdale, FL this Saturday and Sunday, will be the largest cannabis event held in Florida since MJBizCon held their 2016 Spring Conference in Orlando.
With a focus on education, preparation, and networking, the SECC Expo has assembled over 60 industry experts and nearly 200 exhibitors for the 2-day event.
While the main conference and expo opens Saturday morning, Friday’s offerings focus on education with Introductory Marijuana Industry courses presented by Cloverleaf University available throughout the day. Additionally, Viridian Capital will be hosting a Cannabis Investment Workshop. The evening’s festivities include a presentation from Pro Athletes Pro Cannabis where attendees will hear from retired NFL players Ricky Williams, Marvin Washington, and Boo Williams among others.
A rally to support and honor our Veterans will be held prior to the Expo opening Saturday morning. In addition to the rally, one of the event sponsors, FlavRX, has generously agreed to cover the attendance cost for Veterans. After the opening ceremony, Saturday will involve educational tracks and panels featuring some of the foremost cannabis industry experts. The events Keynote will be given by longtime cannabis advocate, Montell Williams, at 2 pm. A few other notable Saturday sessions include:
- Uma Dhanabalan- Cannabis: The EXIT Drug
- Michael Minardi- Defending Cannabis Patients in Florida: What You Need to Know
- Daniel Sparks, BioTrackTHC– Legal Compliance for Cannabis
Sunday’s session schedule will include more business tracks designed to help prospective “cannapreneurs” prepare for success with tracks like “Realities of Being in the Cannabis Business”, “How to Create a Winning Cannabis Application”, and “Talking to Your Kids About Cannabis”.
The weekend will have plenty of networking opportunities available as well. Beyond the hundreds of conversations on the conference floor, Weedmaps is hosting a reception Saturday night. Between the lineup, the venue, and participation from industry leaders, the SECC Expo is sure to provide value to attendees this weekend.
In addition to speaking sessions, BioTrackTHC will be at booth #509 to answer any seed to sale tracking questions or just talk about the industry. Ticket prices go up Thursday, make sure to stop by the booth and say hi if you can and grab a #wheresthein!
